> > Metabolic Syndrome Approximately 1 in 4 Americans are diagnosed with metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome is defined as group of risk factors: elevated levels of blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol and central obesity (high waist circumference) that increases the risk of heart disease, stroke, cancer and diabetes.
As stated by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) metabolic syndrome characteristics appear to adversely affect mental health and blood pressure of men in the workplace. Not only does metabolic syndrome affect individuals’ health but it is also very expensive. Pharmacy costs associate with metabolic syndrome are over $4,000 per employee and healthcare claims are nearly $600 per employee, per month. Research suggests that cardiometabolic and mental health profiles of American workers can be positively impacted by worksite health promotion programs.
Vaccination Services of America, now TotalWellness, offers programs to screen for, report on, and improve the quality of life for employees with metabolic syndrome.
