New! Health Coaching

Vaccination Services of America, now TotalWellness, recently added Telephonic Lifestyle Management Coaching to their extensive list of wellness services.  Telephonic Coaching is an excellent way to reach employees and provide one-on-one support for them.

According to the American Journal of Health Promotion, employees that complete  telephonic health coaching regimens are more likely to show improvements in physical activity, eating habits, and overall health status compared to peers that did not participate in a coaching program.

Our curriculum works with individuals - prioritizing health issues, creating manageable goals and providing support.  Lifestyle management health coaching can meet the needs of EVERY employee and every health issue.  It is the real answer – flexible, measurable, and linked to higher ROI than any other intervention.

TotalWellness is providing the service to the school community free of charge as an effort to make Omaha a healthier city.

Metabolic Syndrome

Approximately 1 in 4 Americans are diagnosed with metabolic syndrome.  Metabolic syndrome is defined as group of risk factors: elevated levels of blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol and central obesity (high waist circumference) that increases the risk of heart disease, stroke, cancer and diabetes.

As stated by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) metabolic syndrome characteristics appear to adversely affect mental health and blood pressure of men in the workplace. Not only does metabolic syndrome affect individuals’ health but it is also very expensive.  Pharmacy costs associate with metabolic syndrome are over $4,000 per employee and healthcare claims are nearly $600 per employee, per month.  Research suggests that cardiometabolic and mental health profiles of American workers can be positively impacted by worksite health promotion programs.

Vaccination Services of America, now TotalWellness, offers programs to screen for, report on, and improve the quality of life for employees with metabolic syndrome.

HFA Offers Carotid Artery Ultrasound Screenings
Health Fairs of America is now offering Carotid Artery Ultrasound Screenings at health fairs.

People with carotid artery disease are at a higher risk of stroke. Carotid artery disease is characterized by carotid stenosis, or narrowing of the carotid artery, and is a very significant risk factor for stroke.

An ultrasound is currently the best available screening study used for identifying carotid artery narrowing. The test is non-invasive, painless and uses sound waves to image the arteries in order to assess the degree of narrowing.
